London: Macmillan and Co., 1929. [School stories] FIRST EDITION. The entire Stalky episodes collected in book form for the first time. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.447. Illustrated by L. Raven-Hill. Publisher's gilt decorated red cloth, top edge gilt. Some dustiness, covers a little sunned. A very good, presentable copy. Kipling's famous tales about adolescent boys at a British boarding school. These controversial short stories which feature elements of revenge, the macabre (dead cats), bullying, violence, and hints on sex, made them far from childish or idealised, unlike the (then) typical school story.
