Without half titles but with errata slip to volume one and three of the secondary title [individual book title] pages bound in after the title pages. Bound in speckled brown half calf with gilt decoration and raised bands to spine, red and black morocco title labels, marbled sides, edges trimmed and tinted red. A few marks within else mostly clean, externally fine. A very good set in a handsome recent leather binding. Set in the 1830s in Middlemarch, a fictional provincial town in England, which was based on the midlands' Coventry. Widely seen as Eliot's greatest work, it is almost unanimously acclaimed as one of the great novels of the Victorian era. Item #55199
