At the rear of the book is a gilt-stamped pocket housing a suite of six plates, each signed by the artist and countersigned by Philip Pullman. The author has also written a two-line quote from the text, beneath the portrait engraving (p.40), which is also signed and dated. Hand-bound by Smith Settle in half red calf, gilt, over marbled sides, red endpapers, top edge gilt, with matching leather-trimmed slipcase. A wonderful production; the first 65 copies (of 315) are accompanied by a set of signed engravings; copies 16-65 are printed letterpress on mould-made Somerset paper and bound in leather (copies from the higher limitation were bound in cloth).
