London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1914. [Military History] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (18 x 12cm), pp.viii; 152. Publisher's illustrated softcovers printed in red and black. Original price 1 shilling to spine and upper. 5000 copies published December 1914. Contents clean, light blue colour card sunned to tan to spine and upper, minor edgewear. A near fine example of an item which rarely survives; this is the only copy available at the time of writing. Conan Doyle's collected journalism on the outbreak and initial stages of conflict, at that early time referred to as 'The German War'. First appearing in the Daily Chronicle, this is the first edition in book form; the durable US hardcover equivalent comprised just 1000 copies although evidently more have survived than the fragile British softcover.
