no place, no date. [Autographs] A remarkable autograph album of one Lawrence Biggart containing 95 signatures (1940-48), mostly international statesmen, war leaders, dignitaries and prominent military officials and public servants, plus some contemporary celebrities. Small landscape album (18 x 12cm) in brown crocodile skin-effect leather, comprising 95 autographs on paper affixed to various coloured leaves, some with ministerial or other official letterheads, occasional salutations or dates, most captioned by owner. Occasional foxing, some oversize leaves folded over, generally very good. The son of Scottish lawyer and shipbuilder Sir Thomas Biggart, the schoolboy Lawrence (Stratheallen Schoole, Perthshire) was a teenager at the outbreak of World War II when he wrote to various luminaries of the day (with the assistance of his respected father) requesting their signatures. The 95 autographs assembled make a fine collection, including six British Prime Ministers (Churchill, Lloyd George, Clement Attlee, Stanley Baldwin, Neville Chamberlain and Anthony Eden), other politicians including half of the war cabinet, Newspaper magnate (and Ian Fleming's close friend and employer) Viscount Kemsley, military heroes J A Cruickshank VC and Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur 'Bomber' Harris, British Royalty including Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother), Earl Mountbatten, the Duke of Norfolk and Duke of Montrose, various European monarchs and Prime Ministers, and Prime Ministers of leading Empire (Commonwealth) Nations including Australia, Canada, Souther Rhodesia, South Africa and New Zealand.
