The Case for Spirit Photography. Arthur Conan DOYLE, Sir.

The Case for Spirit Photography.

London: Hutchinson and Co., no date [December 1922]. [Occult] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 14cm), pp.110. Complete with 16 photographic plates showing 31 photographic images. As Green and Gibson note, the illustrations list call for an additional plate, but no copy with this plate has ever been noted; it seems to be an error in the text. Publisher's green card covers with darker green titles to front cover and advertisements to back. Two contemporary newspaper clippings pasted to either side of the title page, with associated heavy offsetting. A couple of chips; covers largely browned, with the date '1922' written by hand to front cover. Old adhesive reinforcement to spine also browned and starting. Very good. Green and Gibson note that the book 'was written in defence of William Hope of the 'Crewe Circle' whose psychic photography was exposed as fraud by Harry Price at a sitting in January 1922.'. Item #53708
