Oxford: At the Clarendon Press, 1926. [Literary Biography] FINELY BOUND, first Clarendon edition, being the third overall. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.xvi; ; 235; . With a frontispiece portrait of the author; a frontispiece portrait of the subject facing the facsimile title page, and three further plates, all taken from the first edition. Recent burgundy half calf, with raised bands, gilt titles and decoration to spine, and marbled paper over boards. All edges untrimmed. Some offsetting to half-title and final leaf, a little toned to edges. Very good. Assembled by Austen's nephew and first published in 1870, this biography remains 'the only published record of Jane Austen's life by one who knew her.' It contains an introduction by the eminent Austen scholar Robert Chapman, and retains the cancelled chapter of 'Persuasion', as well as 'Sanditon,' which were first published in the second edition of 1871.
