The Antiquary.
Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, 1886. [Classic Literature] FINELY BOUND. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.[6]; 438; [2]. With an engraved frontispiece and title page by the Dalziel brothers. In a fine prize binding for Harrow School. Slightly later full green calf with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and a gilt armorial crest and motto to the upper board. Marbled endpapers; all edges gilt. Armorial bookplate of the Edmond Bray family to front pastedown, dated 1899. Spine sunned, otherwise near fine. A contemporary story of romance and ruins in Scott's favourite Lothian setting, including a fine beach scene where a seal valiantly defends itself from a sudden violent assault by a man with a stick, and a series of fascinating but not especially relevant German fairy-tale-digressions.
