Sparkling Cyanide. Agatha CHRISTIE, Dame.

Sparkling Cyanide.

London: For the Crime Club by Collins, 1945. [Mystery] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.160. Publisher's orange cloth with titles in black to spine, striking pictorial dust-wrapper designed by Stead with a green skull grinning through a glass of cyanide-laced champagne to front panel, titles to spine, reviews of Christie's works to rear cover. A lovely clean copy; two small spots to fore-edge, no inscriptions, jacket with a little edgewear, price-clipped. A bright, near fine copy. Uncommon thus. "A year ago, seven people sat down to dinner. One of them, Rosemary Barton, never got up...." 'Sparkling Cyanide' is an expansion of a Hercule Poirot short story entitled 'Yellow Iris'. It is one of four cases featuring the British former MI5 agent Colonel Johnny Race, who first appeared in 'The Man In the Brown Suit'(1924), and had partnered Poirot in 'Cards on the Table'(1936) and 'Death On the Nile'(1937).
