The Luck of the Roaring Camp, and Other Sketches.

Boston, MA: James R. Osgood and Company, 1871. [Western Short Stories] FIRST EDITION, Second Issue, including 'Brown of Calaveras'. Octavo (18 x 13cm), pp.[2]; viii; 256; [2]. With the ownership inscription of Stafford Nothcote, 1st Earl of Iddesleigh (1818-1887) to flyleaf, dated 1871, Washington. Publisher's pebble grain cloth with gilt titles to spine. Dark brown endpapers. Small Washington bookseller's label to pastedown. One further ownership in black ink to verso of front free endpaper, dated 1939. Slight lean, textblock a little shaken. Sunning and rubbing to spine, with some light marks and bumps to boards. Good, but with an interesting association. An early collection of Bret Harte's stories about the American West.
