The Rover. Joseph CONRAD.

The Rover.

London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1923. [Literature] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.317; [3]. With the textual error ' o' for 'go', p. 221, line 2. Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board. Top edge lightly tinted green. With the cream illustrated dust-jacket, priced at 7/6. A contemporary advertisement for recent books by Conrad loose to preliminaries. Label removed from front pastedown, edges toned. Gilt oxidised to spine; head of spine pulled. Significant losses to head and tail of jacket; some smaller closed tears and creases elsewhere. A few marks, but a clean example of the jacket overall. Very good. Set in the south of France in the waning years of the French Revolution, "The Rover" is a tale of self-discovery. Seeking rest after a life of adventure, Peyrol returns to his native land to find instead intrigue, love and commitment. Item #52985
