London: Odhams Press Limited, 1933. [Strange Tales] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.247; blank. Publisher's plum-coloured cloth with titles in gilt to spine, in suitably macabre wrapper. Some edge spotting, fugitive pigment of cloth with inevitable sunning to extremities, gilt dulled, jacket with some accomplished restoration, chiefly to spine and folds. Shows very well. A collection of twelve short stories, mostly tales of fate and the supernatural, published by Odhams rather than her usual publisher Collins, who produced their own version a little later. The book is notable for including the first appearance of Christie's legendary story 'The Witness for the Prosecution' which the author subsequently adapted for the stage, and which was the basis for two classic movies.
