The standard binding of red cloth, embossed silhouette of Churchill on a brown leather square to upper boards, gilt titles to brown leather squares to spine, top edges red, red endpapers. Colour frontispiece to each volume, illustrated with numerous photographic plates and maps (some folding). Five volumes with the original plain paper wrappers (one similar wrapper supplied). Internally fine, some minimal toning to edges. Some negligible mottling to the cloth of some volumes. Chipping and creasing to the edges of the fragile wrappers, some small tears and toning. An excellent set, very uncommon in the original jackets. Fine. The Chartwell Edition was issued after the final volume of the Second World War had been published by Cassell in 1954, incorporating the author's final revisions and with the addition of illustrations.
