Octavo (24 x 16cm), pp.[8]; 444; pp.[2]; 444; [4]. With numerous folding charts and diagrams. Later straight grained tan morocco, with raised bands and gilt titles to spine, as well as elaborate gilt decoration to boards. All edges and endpapers marbled. A crisp clean example, with just a little handling and rubbing to binding and an appreciable scratch to the lower board. Very good. Contains important first-appearance articles on topics including Nystrom's Calculating Machine; the 1851 Great Exhibition; an Improved Smut Machine; Michael Faraday on Atmospheric Magnetism; Photography; a Stevenson Lighthouse; Telegraphs and Railways.
