Red half calf binding over red cloth lettered in gilt to spine, raised bands with blind panelling. Black and white pictorial frontispiece, illustrations by Clarkson Stanfield. Some spotting, damp marks to plates, bookplate to pastedown. Hinges starting. Binding somewhat rubbed and worn, damp mark to foot of spine. Good. Marryat's book features a young street urchin and his struggle in daily life in Greenwich. The book describes how the boy grows up to become a wealthy pilot on the Thames. The name 'Poor Jack' comes from a nickname given by mudlarks to their chief. Item #51866
