Dark green full morocco, lettered in gilt to spine, raised bands to spine with gilt decoration and gilt panels to boards, all edges gilt, pictorial frontispiece, marbled endpapers, black and red lettering to title page, illustrated by George Cruikshank, John Leech and John Tenniel. Spotting to first and last few leaves, otherwise internally clean, ownership inscription to flyleaf, top edge toned, wear to spine and board corners, marking to lower board. Very good. The legends were first printed on a regular basis in the Bentley's Miscellany magazine and New Monthly magazine, and first published as a book in 1840. The book is a collection of poetry, ghost stories and legends that are mostly parodies or deliberately humorous. Item #51851
