Publisher's embossed dark red cloth lettered in gilt to spine and upper board, top-edge gilt, others untrimmed, patterned endpapers, attractive bookplate of Lionel Spiers to pastedown. Light spotting to first few pages, otherwise internally clean. Spine sunned, some marking to board edges, lightly rubbed to spine-ends and joints, corners bumped. Very good. Titled 'Following the Equator', in the US, this book contains the author's memoirs of a tour of the British Empire in 1895. Twain embarked upon this tour in an attempt to reduce his debt. Item #51850
