Contemporary speckled calf with raised bands, gilt titles and gilt decoration to spine. Marbled endpapers; edges speckled red. Recent repairs to head and joints of spine. Corners bumped. Lightly browned; a little more so to preliminaries. Very good. As Protestant Minister for the town of Beaumont, Aubin was permitted to leave France following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. Embarking on a literary career once settled in the Netherlands, this was his first publication in 1693, with many new editions following. An English translation titled 'The cheats and illusions of Romish priests and exorcists' was published in London in 1703. Item #51622
