Publisher's black cloth lettered in gilt to backstrip, striking pictorial jacket by Samuel Bernard Schaeffer priced at $3.00. Neat ink ownership dated 1932, jacket a little toned to spine and rear. A near fine copy in the excessively rare jacket; at the time of writing this is the only copy available. A scholar at the University of Budapest, Dr. Emil Lengyel became a widely-published authority on the European theater of World War II and the rise of Nazism. During the Great War he was imprisoned in Siberia by the Russians, learning French, German and English before escaping from incarceration. He arrived in America in 1922, where he lectured history and world affairs as a faculty member of NYU. He wrote extensively on Germany during the 30's and 40's and many of his books were banned by the Nazis. Item #51592
