The Struggle for Empire. A Story of the Year 2236.

London: Eliot Stock, 1900. [Science fiction] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.[8]; 213; [3]. Publisher's green cloth, titles in gilt to spine and upper board, dark blue coated endpapers. Very small closed tears to the fore edge of a few pages, sporadic light spotting and the occasional mark to the textblock, but generally bright and clean. Slight lean. Cloth rubbed to extremities, some marks to boards, corners a little bumped, spine ends pushed, gilt to spine faded and dulled. All told an attractive and presentable copy of a scarce slice of early science fiction. Very good. An early work of space opera recounting the conflict between the competing Anglo-Saxon and Sirian empires. Featuring interstellar battleships built of Firmium and armed with death-rays. Item #51412
