London: Jonathan Cape, 1955. [History] FIRST EDITION. Small Quarto (25 x 19cm), pp.206. Publisher's light blue cloth with gilt titles to spine and RAF symbol in blind to upper board, top edge blue. Cream dust jacket featuring black and mauve titles priced at 17/6. Minor spotting to flyleaves else a clean, fine copy inside and out; the jacket has a few trivial nicks and marks. Overall a fine copy. Lawrence's 'The Mint' is a memoir of his experiences as an enlisted man in the Royal Air Force; working from a notebook he kept while enlisted, Lawrence wrote of the daily lives of fellow servicemen and about his feelings towards the RAF. The book, with its sparse and sharp prose, is stylistically very different from 'Seven Pillars of Wisdom', and was published posthumously, edited by his brother Prof. A.W. Lawrence. Item #51278
