With a lithographic frontispiece reproduction of an engraving, and 12 illustrations placed throughout the text. Publisher's green quarter morocco with gilt titles to spine and green leather-grain-effect cloth over boards. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Rubbing to spine and some wear to outer edges. Good. Probably the most exhaustive catalogue of chronograms ever published. The chronogram is a date formed from the capitalised letters in an inscription, added together as Roman Numerals. Hilton was a solicitor by trade, but took his archaeological and antiquarian interests very seriously, becoming a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Item #51126
