INSCRIBED by the author in black ink to half-title: 'To my Aunt, / With much love, / & I hope you like / it, / Dick / May 1948'. Publisher's burgundy cloth with silver titles to spine and upper board. With the illustrated dust-jacket, priced at 9/6. Slight reading lean; a few marks and some rubbing to cloth. Jacket heavily chipped and rubbed to edges, with large portions missing from the head and tail of the spine, and the back cover, neat repair to rear of jacket. Fair. The veteran broadcaster's first novel, in which seven unrelated characters set out from Berlin in order to return to Britain, and are all involved in a great storm as they set out by boat from the Hook of Holland.
