London: Cassell and Company, 1948-61. [Politics]. FIRST EDITIONS. Five Volumes, octavo (23 x 15 x 18cm). Publisher's cloth, gilt titles to spine, typographic dust-jackets. The five volumes housed in a custom fleece lined cloth slipcase with ribbon pull. Some tape burn to the flyleafs of a couple of volumes, some small splits to the endpapers along the upper hinge of volume one. The dust-jackets show very well indeed with just some light spotting to the lighter panels of some of the dust-jackets and some slight nicking and creasing to extremities. An excellent set, scarce in such a bright state. Near-fine. Containing many of Churchill's most famous speeches, including 'The Sinews of Peace', given at Westminster College, Fulton Missouri on 5th March 1946. In this speech Churchill coined the term 'Iron Curtain', and thereby defined the ensuing Cold War period. Item #50300
