Tunbridge Wells: J. Clifford, 1840. [Botany]. FIRST EDITION. Octavo (18 x 11cm), pp.v; [1]; 179; [1]; [one of publisher's advertisements]; [1]. Publisher's green textured cloth with paper labels to spine and upper board. Hand-coloured folding plate of Dentaria Bulbifera facing title page. Bookplate of W. H. Hills to pastedown, some neat pencil entries, binding fragile but still holding, archive tape reinforcement to front hinge. Cloth rubbed and worn to extremities, with some marking to boards, some chipping and tearing to the head and tail of the spine. Spine label browned. Very good. A charming pocket book of plants found in the vicinity of Tunbridge Wells, many with notes on where they can be seen growing, printed with large blank spaces left blank on the pages so the keen amateur botanist can add their own notes. A rare title with only two listed on Copac, and seemingly none sold at auction in many years. Item #49807
