Seven volumes dated 1902-1930 in publisher's red cloth with gilt titles to spines and gilt devices stamped to upper boards. First six volumes with top edge gilt. Two companion volumes on British officers killed and wounded, and modern studies on the Peninsular War, published by Greenhill Books in 1998 and 1999, in publisher's green cloth with gilt titles to spine and original green pictorial dust-jackets. Spotting to some frontispieces and preliminaries. Some wear to cloth, with reading leans to most volumes and sunned spines.Spines glued against binding with corrugated card spacers, making them strong but inflexible. Light sunning to dust-jackets. Good. Chichele Professor of Modern History at Oxford University from 1905, Oman was an influential and highly regarded military historian who was also known for books on the Art of War in the Middle Ages, and early studies of the Dark Ages and the Byzantine Empire. His History of the Peninsular War is regarded as his Magnum Opus, the publication of which was interrupted by his work for the British Government during the First World War. Item #49756
