Manchester: The co-operative Printing Society, February 1923. [Manchester Printing and Binding History]. FINE ILLUMINATED DOCUMENT IN A FINE CONTEMPORARY BINDING. Two sheets of vellum hand-illuminated in red, blue, green and gilt, announcing the retirement of the General Manager, James Booth. A token of the high esteem in which he was held by employees, this document is signed by the head of every department, and even includes a small bust portrait. The sheets are pasted down into a diptych consisting of two wooden boards bound together in red morocco with a debossed design featuring gilt decoration and a 'JB' monogram on-laid in orange and green. Housed in a matching red morocco clamshell box with a padded red velvet lining, itself protected within a plain red cloth-covered box. Some slight marks and smudging to text. The very lightest of handling, with a few minor marks to the outer cloth box. A unique object in near-fine condition. Item #49520
