A near fine copy, with presentation note to flyleaf; To / **** / with much love / Roald Dahl / 19 Nov. 1984 (flourish) This copy was purchased at Dahl's local bookshop (ticket to pastedown) and inscribed the month after publication. It is one of five inscribed Dahl books directly obtained from the recipient, a friend of Theo Dahl, the author's third child and only son. According to the accompanying written account, the books' owner spent much time around the Dahl house in Great Missenden, played in Dahl's hut whilst this title was being written, and had an after-school job at Dahl and Son Antiques on the High Street.
