London: Ward Lock and Co. 1935. Mystery novel. FIRST EDITION, later state. Octavo. In the secondary binding of green cloth, lettered in black, in original jacket repriced to 5/- and with publisher's book number overprinted to spine. The striking dust-wrapper depicts 'reaching' hands, with a leather glove motif to the spine. A lightly used copy in a bright, clean jacket with a few minor nicks and tears. Very good indeed. A crime novel featuring Colonel Gantian, the series detective known as 'Leathermouth'. Ward Lock's practice with slow-selling titles of this period was to reissue the spare/unsold sheets in a cheaper binding (no gilt) and to clip and reduce the price on the jacket, which then had a series number added to the spine.
