Handsomely bound in recent brown half calf over marbled boards, gilt titles on a black morocco square and gilt tooling to spine. Profusely illustrated with frontis portrait, folding map, and 15 plates. Marginal repair to title page, small rust spot to pages 81 through to 87, pages 281 to 288 misbound between pages 240 and 241, with contemporary note on same pages to denote the fact, repair to top right corner of page 297. Small square cut from page iii and pages 3 to 6 of volume two, not encroaching on text. Annotation in a contemporary hand to page 68. Small loss to bottom right corner of page 85, small tear to fore edge of page 149 probably cased by a printing fault, small loss to bottom right corner of page 195, couple of small closed tears to the top of page 209, small loss to bottom right corner of page 237.
