London and Bombay: Longman's Colonial Library, 1905. First Colonial Edition, later issue. Octavo, pp.[viii]; 403; , imprint; , advertisements. With a frontispiece illustration by Paget. Publisher's red cloth titled in black to the spine and front board, 'swan' patterned endpapers. In a fleece-lined red cloth slip-case. Some minor foxing, mark to p.65. Bookseller ticket to pastedown "Angus and Robertson,... 89 Castlereagh St, Sidney". Utilitarian binding, somewhat soiled, tide marks to the front boards with some transfer to the endpapers, rubbing to spine ends, with some minor fraying. This is the uncommon overseas first; although issued in a similar format to the Newnes' edition, this cloth is much less hard wearing and rather more prone to soiling than the regular dark blue home market binding. An accompanying letter discusses the priority of varient bindings, including this one. Item #47393
