With seven engraved plates to part one, but lacking the folding frontispiece. Original calf-tipped marbled paper-covered boards, respined to style with gilt titles to a red calf label. Generally clean inside, with occasional marking and marginal loss to p.37 (pt.I), and p.13 (pt.II). Boards rubbed and dusty, some edgewear. Restored to a robust, attractive condition. Very good. A seemingly popular book on farriery, with a greatly improved tenth edition appearing by 1754. All the early printings are now scarce, with just nine copies appearing at auction since 1931, of which none were the first edition. Only three copies of this 1720 first printing are noted on Copac (at the BL, Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities). RARE. Item #46621
