The Kentish Note Book. A Half-Yearly Magazine of Notes, Queries, and Replies on Subjects Connected with the County of Kent.

Gravesend: Smithers Brothers (Vol.I); London: Henry Gray (Vol.II). 1891-1894. Inscribed First Edition. Octavo, two volumes, pp. vii, 470, x, pp. vii, 436. Bound in dark green cloth with gilt titles to spines, gilt border and 'Invicta' to upper boards. Yellow endpapers, speckled edges to volume two. Volume one bears the inscription "Presented to the Maidstone Museum and Public Library, by George O. Howell. May 1st 1893." to the flyleaf. Both volumes have clean and bright textblocks with just a touch of toning to volume one. Volume one has an embossed stamp from the Maidstone Museum and Public Library to the title page with 'disposed 2010' in red ball point pen to the flyleaf. The textblock to volume one is slightly shaken in the case. Frontispiece portrait just starting to loosen, some splitting to the paper along the gutters but the binding remains sound. Both volumes have some bumping and rubbing to the extremities. Volume one has quite heavy wear to the cloth along the outer joints, with the three small holes. Volume two has some marking and rippling to the rear board plus a couple of nicks to the cloth at the bottom of the upper board. Overall a very good set, scarce. Item #45588
