Volume includes numerous plates and in-text illustrations. School prize bookplate attached to front pastedown. Some spotting to prelims and to edges, with slight dustiness to top edge, light bumping to the head and tail caps, and some marking to cloth. Dustwrapper shows small chips to top and bottom edges, with some wear – mostly to the spine. Overall, in very good condition. Elias was the daughter of a ship's handler, and was educated in Liverpool. She became a professional author of children's books and histories of the polar expeditions. Upon her death in 1952, Elias left her collection of books on polar exploration to the Scott Polar Institute in Cambridge. This novel reveals Elias' talents as a writer, and long-standing affinity with exploration. Item #44795
