Modern Sons of the Pharaohs: A Study of the Manners and Customs of the Copts of Egypt. S. H. LEEDER.

Modern Sons of the Pharaohs: A Study of the Manners and Customs of the Copts of Egypt.

London: Hodder and Stroughton, 1918. First Edition of a Scarce Title. Octavo. pp. xvi, 355. With 16 photographic plates, including double-page frontispiece of a Coptic wedding and a portrait of the author. Featuring minor addenda, bibliography and index. In publisher's tan cloth with yellow, green and blue decoration to upper board and spine. Black titles to upper board and spine. In lovely bright condition with just a little outer wear. Edges of boards molded somewhat around textblock. Binding weak at p. 64. Overall near-fine, with no sign of spotting or grubbiness. Recently translated into Arabic and re-published in Egypt, this facinating study of the Coptic Christians of Egypt is testament to a world rapidly passing into history. Leeder blames the British occupation for the break-down in relations between Muslims and Copts in Egypt - a situation which has only deteriorated since the book was first published. Item #44718
