London: Chapman and Hall, n.d. Octavo. Bound in contemporary half red calf over marbled paper boards, red and green labels, raised bands and gilt decoration to spine; all edges marbled, marbled endpapers. Binding shows well, with a little rubbing. Evidence of page removed from prelims. Internally clean and free from spotting. Dickens' study of the deep desire to build something and pass it onto one's children, and of the horrifying consequences that a misguided version of this passion can wreak on those children who disappoint their parents. In many ways a much darker novel than Dickens' other works, and is in many ways therefore also the most interesting to read. Item #43889
