London: John Murray, 1919. Two vols. Octavo. Bound by Riviere in half brown morocco over brown cloth boards, with raised bands and gilt titles to spine; top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. Portrait frontispieces to both volumes. Bindings show well, with bumping to corners, joints rubbed, rear joint of volume two starting, some fading to spine. Internally clean and free from foxing. Binder's stamp to bottom of front free endpaper, "Bound by Riviere and Son". A comprehensive collection of the work of one of the greats of Victorian poetry, now much studied chiefly because the reputation of Porphyria's Lover and My Last Duchess have cemented Browning in the popular imagination as a poet who tapped into the dark undercurrent of the Victorian age.
