"If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all. "
— Oscar Wilde

London: Piper, Stephenson and Spence, 1856. Signed. Octavo. Abridged edition. Bound in contemporary red morocco, with triple ruled gilt panelling and decorative gilt tooling to boards, raised bands, gilt title and gilt decoration to spine; all edges gilt, gilt dentelles, pale yellow endpapers. With bookplate, and author's signature. Cresswell's initials to lower left corner of flyleaf. Binding is rubbed, worn and bumped to corners, joints and spine ends chipped, spine faded. Internally clean, save for very minor spotting to prelims and end matter. Bookplate, "Do It With Thy Might" "Buxton", apparently the bookplate of Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton, Elizabeth Fry's brother-in-law; some pencilled annotations mistakenly attribute it to Edward North Buxton, 2nd Baronet, and also confuse the 2nd Baronet with his son, Sir Thomas Buxton 3rd Baronet, who was the Governor of South Australia.
