Bound in contemporary brown half morocco over marbled paper with triple gilt ruling to morocco; raised bands, gilt tooling and gilt titles to spine; marbled endpapers, top and front edges marbled. With numerous illustrations by Phiz. Binding is rubbed, including joints and edges worn, boards scratched, bumping to corners, ringmark to front and rear boards. Neat ownership inscription. Text is fairly clean, occasional spotting, though plates are foxed and frequently this bleeds through to surrounding leaves. A first edition of one of Dickens' most important novels. Item #43223
