London: Sampson Low, Marston and Company, . Classic adventure. 'Author's Illustrated Edition' [most likely the Christmas 1910 'New Illustrated Shilling Series for Boys' noted by Taves and Michaluk]. Crown octavo, pp.174. Bound in publisher decorative red cloth blocked in blue and black, with 'Pears Soap advert to rear cover. Some spine lean, bookseller blind stamp to flyleaf; very good indeed. Another rip-roaring Verne extravaganza set in a Scottish mine where, naturally all is not as it seems, for a start is has people living in it (in a cottage, which seems overdoing it somewhat) and a series of strange events occur, many of which seem to involve a giant, psychotic owl. And pirates...alright it doesn't have pirates, but it does have a giant owl, and strange doings. Item #42194
