Item #41622 The Conquest of The Arctic. Louis SEGAL.

The Conquest of The Arctic.

London: Harrap, 1939. SIGNED FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. 284. Bound in publisher's light blue cloth titled in pale silver to spine, in a pictorial dustjacket depicting modes of transport heading towards the North Pole. Cloth in excellent condition with limited signs of wear. Endcaps a little pushed, with superficial rubbing here and there. Textblock externally spotted, but clean throughout. Dustjacket is excellent: bright, clean, unclipped, with a few small closed tears and chips, and a little soiling to the rear panel. A visually striking book. Author's red pen inscription to the front flyleaf reads: 'To Mr. Hugh W. Ewing / With the sincere compliments of the author / 15.01.42 / Louis Segal'. Ewing was the author of the 'First Books for Home and School' in the 1940s. Segal's work is a scholarly account of passages into the Arctic, from the ancients to more modern accounts. Thrilling rescues from treacherous ice floes and feats of daring-do are waiting to be found inside this item. Item #41622
