London: Duckworth and Co., 1914. FIRST EDITION. Octavo. pp. 310 [16]. In publisher's dark blue cloth with gilt titles. Minor rubbing/soiling, internally clean. Overall a very good copy indeed. McDonald's First issue. Roberts' second variant. Roberts records four different cloth types totalling seven variants for which priority is not ascertained. With a loose letter inserted from the British Library, confirming this copy as being a first issue. Bibliography aside, this is an attractive copy of the first edition. D.H. Lawrence was awarded the 1920 James Tait Black Memorial Prize, founded in memory of a partner in the publishing house of A. & C. Black Ltd., and one of the oldest and most prestigious book awards in Britain. Item #41346
