London: Chapman and Hall no date (circa 1870). Thick medium octavo, pps. (xvi) + 609. Illustrated. The engraved title page displays the 'Weller' sign (altered from 'Veller' in first issue). Publisher's blind-stamped olive green cloth with backstrip ruled in five compartments, lettered in gilt to the second and fourth panels, peach-coloured coated endpapers, edges untrimmed. Internally clean, inscription in an attractive copper-plate hand to the half-title, text block shaken in the case with gutters simply repaired. The cloth shows some acceptable shelfwear, spine ends a little frayed, backstrip and extremities a little sunned to brown. A presentable nineteenth century copy in the same format as the first edition (the pagination and plates are the same, and the cloth is similar). Item #40877
