The Unwilling Dictator. Part Two of The Survivors of the Jonathan.

London: Arco Publications, 1962. [French Literature] FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. Octavo (21 x 14cm), pp.192. Publisher's brown cloth with gilt titles to spine. With the black and blue dust-jacket designed by Jozef Gross, priced at 12/6. Jacket flap re-priced with a sticker, partially removed. Jacket spine lightly toned. Near fine. The second half of what was originally thought to be a story written by Jules Verne in 1897, and published posthumously by his son in 1909. When the original manuscript was discovered in 1977, titled 'En Magellanie,' it became clear that Michel had actually re-written the story himself. It tells the story of an anarchist living on the remote southern tip of South America who helps a colony develop from the survivors of a shipwreck, and eventually finds himself their reluctant leader.
