A Small Selection of Binding Stamps Designed by Talwin Morris. Printed from the original brasses.

Glasgow: Foulis Archive Press, Glasgow School of Art, 1973. [Book Design] LIMITED EDITION. Octavo pamphlet (21 x 14cm), pp.[14]. A collection of 12 decorative binding stamps designed by Morris, each printed in black ink to one side of a leaf, including one example additionally printed in gilt to a swatch of cream buckram, tipped in as a frontispiece. With a short introductory paragraph to preliminaries. Number 29 of just 50 copies thus, anticipating a larger work on the subject. Publisher's green paper covers with titles to upper. Large bookplate to inside of front cover. A fine copy, almost as-new. Rare, especially in this condition, with no copies in either the British Library or the Library of Congress. Morris' work will be familiar to anyone with an interest in old books. His Glasgow Style Art Nouveau designs were used extensively by the publisher Blackie and Son for many purposes, including the ubiquitous 'Red Letter Library' of classic English literature.
