Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles and black decoration to spine and upper. Yellow-coated endpapers. Residue from removed plate on front pastedown. Rear hinge split with some repairs; still quite fragile. Strong tobacco scent. Spine a little toned and rubbed, and corners slightly bumped. Still an unusually fresh looking copy. Very good. A routine trans-Atlantic crossing turns into a fight for survival on a raft in the open ocean as Murphy's Law takes over. First published in 1875. This edition also includes the short story 'Martin Paz' (1852), telling a Romeo and Juliet style romance set in Lima, Peru. Item #57387
