Toned throughout; more heavily to edge and endpapers. Hinges starting. Heavy rubbing and some bumping to cloth, especially spine. Good. An early thriller from Greene, which portrays the murkier areas of London where Drover, a communist bus-driver, has been sentenced to death for killing a policeman in a political riot while defending his wife. A bitter irony hovers over the ensuing battles to save him. Item #57167
