With an engraved frontispiece portrait of the author, numerous vignettes and a double-page engraving of the More family. Number 173 of just 575 copies, limited and initialled in black ink by Robert Roberts. Dark blue half calf with twin red morocco title labels lettered in gilt, raised bands, gilt rules to spine, marbled boards, top edge gilt; others untrimmed. A few very light institutional marks else contents clean, exterior is fine. A very good copy in an attractive recent leather binding. In Roberts' preface he states that B. M. Pickering suggested he re-print Dibdin's Library Edition of More's Utopia: 'If you do', said he, 'let's have no nasty cheap type ornaments; either quite plain, or only ornament of the best kind'.... 'The head-pieces, borders etc. have been engraved under my own eye, from "Books of Hours" of the Early French Printers...'. Item #55978
