The Leopard. Giuseppe DI LAMPEDUSA, Archibald COLQUHOUN.

The Leopard.

London: Collins and Harvill Press, 1960. [Modern literature] FIRST UK EDITION. Octavo (21 x 15cm), pp.255; [1]. Publisher's green cloth, titles in gilt to spine, dust-wrapper with wraparound artwork by Hans Tisdall with printed price of 16s net. Some slight spotting and toning to edges and first and final leaves, otherwise internally bright and clean, a little dusty to top edge. Dust-jacket shows very well, lightly handled, slightly toned to spine. An attractive copy. Very good. Widely considered one of the most important novels in Italian, 'The Leopard' was only completed days before the author's death in 1957. It concerns the fortunes of a noble family in Sicily during the final stages of Italy's Risorgimento, and was later made into a film starring Burt Lancaster (1963). Item #54372
