Publisher's cloth, gilt titles to spine, pictorial dust-jackets. Illustrated throughout. With an introduction to the first volume by van der Post. All volumes clean and bright internally, some spotting to edges and occasional to leaves, dustiness to top edge. Wrappers to the second two volumes price clipped but other wise very good, wrapper to first volume chipped and edge worn with some tears and laminate lifting/splitting, toned to spine and rear panels. Altogether very good. A three novel series based on the author's wartime experience. Following the sinking of his ship the HMAS Perth he was washed ashore and with a small group of men rigged a steel lifeboat to attempt to return by sail to Australia. Following landfall and subsequent capture in Japanese occupied Java he was imprisoned in Bandoeng camp and later was set to work on the construction of the infamous Burma-Thailand Railway.
